SPECIAL SCREENINGS OF NAOMI KLEIN'S "THE TAKE" W/ DIRECTOR TALK
Hello Friends - Many of you may already be aware of the struggle that has been going on between graduate student teaching assistants and the New York University administration to maintain the recognition of our union (GSOC) and to negotiate
a new contract after the last one lapsed on August 31. With NYU steadfastly refusing to recognize our right to exist as a union, let Alone sit down at the bargaining table, this battle has been escalating and may soon result in graduate students going on strike at NYU.
In support of GSOC, Avi Lewis, the director of the acclaimed 2004 documentary The Take, will be doing a special screening of his film this Saturday at Cooper Union. He will be in attendence to introduce the film and to do an extended Q&A afterward. The screening is free to the public, though a suggested donation will be collected for The Working World, a non-profit organization inspired by The Take and dedicated
to improving the working lives of people through self-reliance and democratic organization.
The Take is about a group of Argentine workers who, in the aftermath of the country's 2001 monetary collapse, took their lives, destinies, and factories back into their own hands. It is a totally engaging and inspiring film and we hope you will join us... and please spread the word.
