backwards chronological photo essay of the weekend.
so it all starts on friday night. plum-blossoms gallery lovely lovely opening. art was fantastic. then over to elik's opening at the skewville gallery. tres amazing. then all the way to the burg for the parts and labor Aa show at river which was freezing and not my thing musically but fun nonetheless. then clinic escorting. then the so rad 'and so forth' conference. snowball fights, sledding and saturday night brooklyn adventuring antics including a boat visit in the gowanus canal. then sunday conference ending with the barbara hammer screening at UnionDocs www.uniondocs.org. what a weekend. here's the photo essay backwards and via blog. life is good.
so a vanload of terrifying ascetic franscican monks shows up to harass women going into the clinic and bring this stuff--note baby starter kit in the back--shampoo & diapers---one time gift only, unfortunately (does not include college tuition or therapist fees for being raised by unprepared or foster parents)

dodgeball is cool when it works
1) are you on dodgeball? get on it! www.dodgeball.com. it's a way to send mass texts. it works most of thetime. add me as your friend!
2) last night i went to the cory arcangel opening at deitch and this guy "jacob" from paper rad did this hilarious and awesome performance which is sorta highlighted here http://www.paperrad.org/ tod took some pics which i hope end up on his rad blog http://suckapants.blogspot.com/ there's music there!
3) then this thing at asterisk--oxford collapse was good
4) barcade for noah's bday.
5) the delancey to see hisham play. now a word about the delancey. FUCK THEM. they have overpriced drinks, attract bridge and tunnel trash, and the band that played before hisham totally sucked. AND we had to wait till like 3am to see him. AND when he finally played, he'd been playing for like half an hour when the bouncers CAME ON THE STAGE and stopped him and sent everyone home. it was totally gross to see these fucking [huge dudes] stopping him. like doesn't the sound guy have a monitor to talk to him through? wtf? boo delancey.
overall nice to see peeps and art and music. we're lucky to have so much cultural sensory experience readily available.

world groans. sinking heart.
have you been reading all the stuff in the news about the tsunami? i'm a f*cking wreck at work today. it's so depressing to see all this destruction and loss. and natural disaster tragedy is only exacerbated by the tragedy of wars and military rule. i watched a screening of Witness' documentaries last night (www.witness.org) at UnionDocs www.uniondocs.org. The world is full of sadness and avoidable tragedy.

WHAT ASAD WROTE TO THE MTA TODAY. YOU SHOULD TOO!
Dear Members of New York City Transit Board,
As a longtime rider and lover of the subway system of New York City, which I believe to be the best in the world, I urge you to reject the proposed ban of photography in the subway.
The ban is unenforceable due to increasingly miniscule technology, not to mention the fact that many people now have cameras in their cellular phones.
Instead, all the ban will achieve would be to further institute an atmosphere of fear and restriction, which I believe is degrading to our society, our democracy.
We are the country and city that celebrates, more than any other, personal and collective freedom, of expression and behavior. The vibrant uniqueness and energy of New York City and its residents are the true reason why the world loves and respects us. Let's be true to that legacy.
yours sincerely,
Asad Raza

WHY YOU SHOULD VOICE YOUR THOUGHTS TO THE MTA ON THE PROPOSED PHOTO BAN TODAY. (LAST DAY TO DO IT).

Breaking: Suspiciously-Brown Man Spotted!
By Jessica2 on Culture: Subway
An orange-alert reader sends us word of great import:
at around 9am-9:10am today i saw a middle eastern man openly video taping inside 53rd St/Lexington train station. He was standing at the end of the platform moving his camera side to side video taping trains and people. An MTA worker was on the way to talk to him when i left. Not the most pleasant thing to see inside your train station. Just wanted to share it. Thank you for reading.
Oh my god, A NON-WHITE PERSON?! In the SUBWAY? With a CAMERA? Holy shit, he must be out to do us harm! If homeland security weren't in our white citizens' hands, we'd all be dead by now.
