O! CANADA!

canadians are basically americans with a different pronunciation of the letter "o" and a delusion that they are better than americans because their governemtn isn't as f'ed up as ours. and so, i will drive tomorrow morning to canada with ma dukes in a zillion hour car ride, as we do every year. good maple syrup. maybe i'll actually make it to montreal which i'm told is a like a giant L.E.S or burg where everyone knows each other. playland!

i'm being hunted for being pro-choice, you might say

good weekend/vera drake/artists

what a nice weekend. was a little too crazy, took lots of good pics though. i still can't figure out how to put pics up on my blog. that would make all this a little easier to understand. i'll work on it. anyway, one of the fun and great things i did was see vera drake. GO SEE VERA DRAKE. it was important to be reminded of my work for choice. how we're so close to losing the right to choose with this psychotic administration. every year about 80,000 women die from lack of access to safe abortions. what is so wrong about having a world full of happy babies? the possibility of losing the right to choose is so scary. we need to be vocal, political, lobbying, fundraising and more through this deeply awful political period. it's not enough for us to just be happy we have the right to choose, we also need to de-stigmatize abortion. that's why the i'm not sorry project is so important. been thinking about/visiting with artists since wooster's party the other night. amazing artists: ash shahparnia http://theash.net/ doze green (duh) www.dozegreen.com eliks (i don't know if he has a site) ease www.joseparla.com toyshop collective www.toyshopcollective.com linda zacks www.extra-oomph.com swear i'll get some pics up soon.

asad says i'm a media whore

whatever. check me and d4d out in this issue of i-D magazine. we're in there as "political creative collective" across from miss erin krause, a lovely luminary who came to ohio with us. she looks great. i'm also in glamour soon for some pro-choice stuff i'm up to, the 'i'm not sorry' project, an amazing documentary about womens' experiences with abortion. quite a controversy over the t-shirt that accompanies the project which reads "i had an abortion" http://archive.salon.com/mwt/feature/2004/09/20/t_shirts/ i am so grateful to jennifer baumgardner for making me a part of this documentary. amazing to work with her and gillian. so. media whore. whatevs.

art reminds you of your daily humiliation

over the summer i turned some of the platitudes i write into stencils and stenciled them about. one of them was - ::::::::art reminds you of your daily humiliation:::::::::::: and :::::::::::::corporate interests are a kind of novacaine. you wake from the stupor and the world's mouth is full of blood:::::::::::::::::::::::::: last night i went to the wooster collective holiday party. why do i love wooster collective more than everything else? they are the best of the best i think. they bring out the best of the best and put them into the trusting and private space of their soho loft. wooster collective events are always the event of the season. i was on their homepage yesterday with mysterious al and a london police lad on my arm http://www.woostercollective.com/2004/12/favorites-things-of-2004-part-3.html that was from their show this past summer. i think the reason they're so fantastic is how much they're in it for the love of art and how they support artists doing the same. that's why i said art reminds you of your daily humiliation. i hated my job and i just wanted to make art and find ways to support my friends who make art. i have so much respect for people biting the bullet and just doing their art.

I'm a blogger! gaw!

This is my first foray into blogging. I'm biting the lame bullet, or cannon, or whatever and jumping right in. Well, it's good I suppose to have a place online to say things that matter to you that don't require you to represent an organization or company. I'm eating vegan pizza right now at work and thinking about how public this all is. Breathe in the self indulgence and love it. Art's not art without an audience right? So maybe I'll make art again in anticipation of an audience. I had a killer weekend. Friday night was my dope birthday at Lit--tons of people showed and made it great. Saturday night I saw the Pixies with TV on the Radio (!!!!!!). Sunday I went to holiday parties galore. Rode my bike from Nolita to Fort Greene to South Slope to Williamsburg/Bushwick--all with an abominably poor sense of direction. A decided accomplishment. Last night was my company office party. Essentially slammin'. This Wednesday I'll be chilling with Wooster Collective--they've just put out a new book. www.woostercollective.com la la la............................
