AWFUL. INDYMEDIA'S HACKED.

this is what indymedia currently reads:

g00ns r00ted th1s

You have lied to the American People over and over again. You attend The Fifth Hope and spread your wicked ideology there. Expect more of this. American Imperialism is non-existent. Our soldiers are dying over sees to give men, women, and children a taste of freedom and you call them imperialists. You are nothing but pigs. You are not against Bush you are against Republicans, you are against anyone who has a different opinion and way of thinking than you. Your box got rooted for lying to the American people. Here are some fun things for the visitors:

[their urls & names]

it was hacked by some rightwing jackasses. 1) they can't spell "overseas," but can hack pretty well. 2) they suggest that we are not against bush but republicans. hmm. i think perhaps we're against the policies of both. 3) they also say we're against people who have different opinions than us. i suppose that's what we really mean by "independent media" i guess we're all for censorship. shocker. it's funny that they say imc is pro-censorship and they react by making the forum non-existent. that's not censorship, right? also, here's this weird chicken promotion burger king is doing which is totally bizarre. thanks for the tips shane! UPDATE: nyc.indymedia.org now redirects. the hack didn't last long, except it would be nice to see nyc.indymedia.org again. they now have this post up:

"New York City IMC, along with several other local IMCs, is experiencing technical difficulties. While we attend to the problems, please use the US IMC site for all of your community reporting needs.

As with local IMCs, you can post and read the US IMC open publishing newswire."

update: some started a petition against these conservative hackers, goons.

CAN WE TALK ABOUT DAVID CHOE FOR A HOT MINUTE?

piece by david choe. so in all honesty i sort of swore off this choe character after checking out his tokyo prison art show at powerhouse gallery. 3 very long walls covered in cartoon women holding their vaginas open just didn't cut it for me artistically and i thought it was stupid and annoying on top of that. it was neato because the quality of drawing was pretty good and because it was made of pee and blood and stuff, but in all i was really turned off. i was especially not digging a balcony scene where it's a little unclear if the sex the woman is having is consensual or if he's making zines about sexual assault. i'm all for sex and the celebration thereof, but not the celebration of violence against women and oppression of women. my least favorite thing is when i feel like scenester life asks me to compromise my feminism and ethics, because the answer is and remains staunchly "no." i think i can carve a path between culture and politics where the two merge and blend. anyway, check out choe's website, because the rest of his stuff is WAY better than the stuff i saw at that opening.

IT TAKES A NATION OF MILLIONS...

see that fucking steed in front of my desk? i rode it to work today (5.9 miles). know why? after a screening of the film i'm in "Speak Out: I Had an Abortion" and a speaking engagement at nyu at 6:30pm I'm riding in critical mass. and as luck would have it, so are you! important deets on critical mass tonight are in suckatown. 4 diff departure points. main departure point is still union square at 7pm. i even wore sneakers today and not cowboy boots. when was the last time i wore sneakers? like never. you don't even care. just come to the damn ride.
now don't act like ya don't know. saturday night book launch. be there or be pre-pubescent. 560 pages. 117 illustrations. 5 bands. 26 cases of free brooklyn lager. 3 cases of wine. 1 free tattoo artist. you know the deal. S. 6th off bedford. saturday 9pm.

CAULK THE WAGON AND FLOAT IT ACROSS.

ford the river. pour one out for the oregon trail. i loved that game. fraction munchers was also totally rad.

THE NEW TYPE OF BEAUTY CAN ONLY BE A BEAUTY OF SITUATIONS

is it beautiful here? well, yes. except that i'm a bit cold and it's raining out making a bike ride out of the question. last night i was all no fear, riding from wackburg down to cobble hill and back up again. have you ever crossed tillary? shit is scary! furthermore, i think i'm becoming a domestic killer (still vegan 4 life of course). i have no interest in parties the way i used to. i like parties and all, but i don't need parties like i used to. hell's definitely freezing over. happy where i am, the beauty of situations. who'd have ever thought the space would be as beautiful empty as full of people?

I HEART WOOSTER. WALK WITH THEM.

that's right. you'll be there. have i told you how much i love the good women and men over at wooster collective? well, let me just say that they've introduced me to my roommate adam, my favorite girltalk sleepoverist ever (who made this pic above), my good friend paul (check out his show list here), reconnected me with ease and doze, introduced me to the work of reid who totally rules, forced half of darius and downey to make me say i'm an artist, given me one of the most fun weeks ever last summer with the british hoodlums (jon burgerman, mysterious al, the london police, galo and many more) and given me a good plenty of wine to guzzle. (now click on all their sites and check out their rad work.) i probably wouldn't know sucka either if it weren't for them. so. come on the walking tour i met my roommate adam on last year. rsvp fast! they wrote: This morning we locked in the route for the 3rd Annual Wooster Collective Walking Tour. As we mentioned the other day, the walking tour through Soho and the LES in New York will take place on Sunday May 22rd at 2pm. We are excited to let you know that some of the artwork you'll see on this year's route include pieces from a wide range of artists including The London Police, Faile, Bast, Swoon, Shepard Fairey, Mike Giant, Tats Cru, Skewville, Space Invader, and many more. In addition, we'll be showing you work from some of the true legends of graf and street art including Cost and Revs, and Barry McGee. But for us, this years highlight is sure to be an original work on the street by the twins, Os Gemeos. And if you look closely you may discover a few Banksy rats lurking in various doorways along the route. More surprises are on the way. So again, if you're planning on joining us, drop us an email to confirm your spot at woostercollective@hotmail.com. (There's no fee for the tour) So far we've filled about half of the 100 spots on the tour. More info coming soon. Don't forget to send us an email if you're planning on attending.

FREE STORE GETS PRESS IN NYT

more importantly it gets press in gawker but here's the nytimes article in case you wanted to see

deer kisses deer.
*THE* EVAN HUTCHINSON AND *THE* DAVE MOORE BLOGGING FROM EVAN'S SIDEKICK FROM THE FUCKING BAR IN A POST ABOUT USING SMS TO ORGANIZE PROTESTS! you know we do that here in new york city too (like during the rnc), right boys?

after the st. helen's candidate thing keara set up we went to mugs. here's keara.

it's a little tough to see but my new bedside table is on the left of my bed.

i got so excited about installing the rack (pictured below) that I hung up my mirror and decorated with the asbestos stuff on the left and some little calma and jet-pac arts.

So last night I found this great little bedside table which Keara drove to my house for me. I got inspired by the addition and installed a rack to hang all my bags on!!!! I'm so proud of myself. Joanna taught me how to install anchors and put the thing up. Awesome.

clearer pic of linda zacks' work. thanks linda!

WEEKEND IN BACKWARDS REVIEW. I'M FUCKING EXHAUSTED.

this is the goddam rattlesnake and poor boy johnson at the barbecue thing where i didn't know anyone. they were amazing! you can hear their stuff in suckatown.
i think this band was called "meadows" or maybe that was just the name of a song they played. in any case they were really nice.

kevin didn't mind being stuffed in a big tube and rolled around my little redheaded muffin's new studio. this was after we rode my bike around the huge space and threw beanbags at the person riding. then my chain fell off. it was FUN.

ladypoo takes a nap in the art coffin in her new playhouse.
me and zip. stop trying to hire us. we like being underemployed dammit. this was the 4th opening we hit in like 3 hrs. i was beamingly proud of us for our party hopping skills. was in bed asleep by like 1 am.
sincerest apologies for the shit pic, but here's linda zacks' work at the rockpile mag opening.

my favorite princess of politics. i love keara so.

the 13-yr old zip doppelganger and darrell. the 13 yr old HATES getting confused for zip all the time. poor boy. he goes to these art openings because they don't card.
seelie-esque companion piece. see the rest here.
this lady is named "orlan" (sp?) and she gets plastic surgery to look like famous paintings. weird! better pic of her over at zipland. we saw her at the deitch "live statement" thing.
everything gets better when dietz gets 3 inches from your camera. this was seconds after he grabs my bandana and goes off on "you're SOOOOO sexerz." dirty dietz. this was at the david choe/vice thing. basically a room full of pictures he made out of pens and blood and urine which are mostly porn. not exactly a feminist funland, but pretty skillful drawing all in all. and he was in solitary confinement and all. boy's resourceful.

'can't you see what you've done to my heart, and soul, this is a wasteland now...'

so it started on a sad thursday evening. riding my bike around into the sunset.

IT'S NO FUN ANYMORE. I'M NO BLOGGER.

so this weekend was really awesome. for a detailed explanation and photo essay of said weekend, check here and here.

EQUAL REPRESENTATION & THE COLUMBIA STRIKE

1) The press conference last week was great. HERE'S what Senator Schneiderman said. 2) There's a strike on this week at Columbia. Please support: Hey folks, Take two seconds to send an e-mail to the douche bag administrators telling them to recognize the damn grad student union. This can be really useful, it really got their attention last time. Thanks everybody! Jacob 3) Is someone war-mongering on the comments section of my last post? Is that facetious? I'm confused.

NAOMI KLEIN & ERIK GUSTAFSON ON TROOP WITHDRAWAL

Troops out now? Naomi Klein and Erik Gustafson talk about the debate for US troops to leave now, or to rebuild and then leave. Whether the U.S troops are actually helping to rebuild or if they are hindering efforts to rebuild and allow credible Iraqis to rebuild for themselves is really at the crux of the debate. A few excellent points are made in this debate. Unfortunately, I still don't feel like I have the answer--since the people I know giving me first hand accounts say that to leave Iraq now in a shambles as it is amounts to a crime against humanity. Klein says that the insurgents who would cause the damage feared in Iraq are already in power and the U.S troops exacerbate the problem heavily. I'm not sure what to think. Watch or listen to this really excellent interview here.

THIS IS THE NIGHT YOU DREAM OF

To the Art & Mischief Makers, This is a call for artists and performers to join us this Thursday from 7pm to 9pm at Subtonic at 107 Norfolk St. for the planning of the street party First Warm Night. Imagine an un-permitted roving renegade explosion of music and performance, flaming hula-hoops, melting ice cream, wanton stilt walkers, delicate poster art, battling brass bands, renegade sound systems, fireworks and rockets, impulsive performance, a city of dreamers at play beside calm waters, within canyons of concrete, amidst shadows of steel. This is the night you dream of. Dozens of motivated event makers have been working the past few weeks to lay the groundwork. We have a plan of action (and plans B, C, and D), we have locations scouted and ideas sprouting, we have a fist full of dollars and infrastructure set. We have performers of whimsy and makers of wicked but we want more. We want you. This is the night you dream of. This Thursday from 7pm to 9pm join us at Subtonic at 107 Norfolk Street at Delancy in the Lower East Side. We will introduce the full concept of the event and will review the logistics we have set. Then we break into work groups including, sound crew, live music performance, electronic performance, non-music performance, video projections, poster art, interactive art, promotion, logistics, bar-b-que crew, team: shock/awe, and others we may discover. This is for all you experienced street aficionados to bring your talents and inspiration into a massive collaborative project. But more than anything this is for those of you who have never been involved in something like this, a taste of building a movement outside of boundaries. This is the night you dream of. Other details: This event is intended to be on the first truly *warm night* of the year. We have had some warm days but the nights haven't yet reached the threshold we are looking for. But this event isn't about temperature, it is about you and me in the street and we will take our chance when it comes. To learn more about the timeline and the plethora of groups already involved come to the meeting: Thursday 7pm to 9pm (or so) At Subtonic (below Tonic) @ 107 Norfolk Street, Surrounded by construction just north of Delancey on the Lower East Side. Take the F or J,M,Z trains to Delancey St. and you are right there. \r\n \r\nFor full details click here
