You have lied to the American People over and over again. You attend The Fifth Hope and spread your wicked ideology there. Expect more of this. American Imperialism is non-existent. Our soldiers are dying over sees to give men, women, and children a taste of freedom and you call them imperialists. You are nothing but pigs. You are not against Bush you are against Republicans, you are against anyone who has a different opinion and way of thinking than you. Your box got rooted for lying to the American people. Here are some fun things for the visitors:

CAN WE TALK ABOUT DAVID CHOE FOR A HOT MINUTE?
piece by david choe. so in all honesty i sort of swore off this choe character after checking out his tokyo prison art show at powerhouse gallery. 3 very long walls covered in cartoon women holding their vaginas open just didn't cut it for me artistically and i thought it was stupid and annoying on top of that. it was neato because the quality of drawing was pretty good and because it was made of pee and blood and stuff, but in all i was really turned off. i was especially not digging a balcony scene where it's a little unclear if the sex the woman is having is consensual or if he's making zines about sexual assault. i'm all for sex and the celebration thereof, but not the celebration of violence against women and oppression of women. my least favorite thing is when i feel like scenester life asks me to compromise my feminism and ethics, because the answer is and remains staunchly "no." i think i can carve a path between culture and politics where the two merge and blend.
anyway, check out choe's website, because the rest of his stuff is WAY better than the stuff i saw at that opening.
IT TAKES A NATION OF MILLIONS...
see that fucking steed in front of my desk? i rode it to work today (5.9 miles). know why? after a screening of the film i'm in "Speak Out: I Had an Abortion" and a speaking engagement at nyu at 6:30pm I'm riding in critical mass. and as luck would have it, so are you! important deets on critical mass tonight are in suckatown. 4 diff departure points. main departure point is still union square at 7pm. i even wore sneakers today and not cowboy boots. when was the last time i wore sneakers? like never. you don't even care. just come to the damn ride.

my two cents: what does it mean for gentrifiers to fight gentrification? hmmm. i'm on board of course, because who wants highrises and a private waterfront not available to the public, not to mention the environmental damage it will cause? but as a wise person once said of the gentrification/displacement relationship, we are part of a broken system. it behooves us greatly to fight the displacement through working with tenants rights groups and through multi-income residential zoning policies. there's nothing wrong with bringing amenities to neighborhoods, the problem lies much more in displacement and segregation. please feel free to chime in on this one. i'd also love to hear what you think about white people teaching yoga (elaborated on below in the comments).
THE NEW TYPE OF BEAUTY CAN ONLY BE A BEAUTY OF SITUATIONS
is it beautiful here?
well, yes. except that i'm a bit cold and it's raining out making a bike ride out of the question. last night i was all no fear, riding from wackburg down to cobble hill and back up again. have you ever crossed tillary? shit is scary! furthermore, i think i'm becoming a domestic killer (still vegan 4 life of course). i have no interest in parties the way i used to. i like parties and all, but i don't need parties like i used to. hell's definitely freezing over. happy where i am, the beauty of situations. who'd have ever thought the space would be as beautiful empty as full of people?

I HEART WOOSTER. WALK WITH THEM.
that's right. you'll be there.
have i told you how much i love the good women and men over at wooster collective? well, let me just say that they've introduced me to my roommate adam, my favorite girltalk sleepoverist ever (who made this pic above), my good friend paul (check out his show list here), reconnected me with ease and doze, introduced me to the work of reid who totally rules, forced half of darius and downey to make me say i'm an artist, given me one of the most fun weeks ever last summer with the british hoodlums (jon burgerman, mysterious al, the london police, galo and many more) and given me a good plenty of wine to guzzle. (now click on all their sites and check out their rad work.) i probably wouldn't know sucka either if it weren't for them.
so. come on the walking tour i met my roommate adam on last year. rsvp fast!
they wrote:
This morning we locked in the route for the 3rd Annual Wooster Collective Walking Tour. As we mentioned the other day, the walking tour through Soho and the LES in New York will take place on Sunday May 22rd at 2pm.
We are excited to let you know that some of the artwork you'll see on this year's route include pieces from a wide range of artists including The London Police, Faile, Bast, Swoon, Shepard Fairey, Mike Giant, Tats Cru, Skewville, Space Invader, and many more. In addition, we'll be showing you work from some of the true legends of graf and street art including Cost and Revs, and Barry McGee. But for us, this years highlight is sure to be an original work on the street by the twins, Os Gemeos. And if you look closely you may discover a few Banksy rats lurking in various doorways along the route.
More surprises are on the way. So again, if you're planning on joining us, drop us an email to confirm your spot at woostercollective@hotmail.com. (There's no fee for the tour) So far we've filled about half of the 100 spots on the tour.
More info coming soon. Don't forget to send us an email if you're planning on attending.

WEEKEND IN BACKWARDS REVIEW. I'M FUCKING EXHAUSTED.
this is the goddam rattlesnake and poor boy johnson at the barbecue thing where i didn't know anyone. they were amazing! you can hear their stuff in suckatown.
sincerest apologies for the shit pic, but here's linda zacks' work at the rockpile mag opening.
seelie-esque companion piece. see the rest here.
this lady is named "orlan" (sp?) and she gets plastic surgery to look like famous paintings. weird! better pic of her over at zipland. we saw her at the deitch "live statement" thing.
everything gets better when dietz gets 3 inches from your camera. this was seconds after he grabs my bandana and goes off on "you're SOOOOO sexerz." dirty dietz. this was at the david choe/vice thing. basically a room full of pictures he made out of pens and blood and urine which are mostly porn. not exactly a feminist funland, but pretty skillful drawing all in all. and he was in solitary confinement and all. boy's resourceful.

NAOMI KLEIN & ERIK GUSTAFSON ON TROOP WITHDRAWAL
THIS IS THE NIGHT YOU DREAM OF
To the Art & Mischief Makers,
This is a call for artists and performers to join us this Thursday from 7pm to 9pm at Subtonic at 107 Norfolk St. for the planning of the street party First Warm Night. Imagine an un-permitted roving renegade explosion of music and performance, flaming hula-hoops, melting ice cream, wanton stilt walkers, delicate poster art, battling brass bands, renegade sound systems, fireworks and rockets, impulsive performance, a city of dreamers at play beside calm waters, within canyons of concrete, amidst shadows of steel.
This is the night you dream of.
Dozens of motivated event makers have been working the past few weeks to lay the groundwork. We have a plan of action (and plans B, C, and D), we have locations scouted and ideas sprouting, we have a fist full of dollars and infrastructure set. We have performers of whimsy and makers of wicked but we want more. We want you.
This is the night you dream of.
This Thursday from 7pm to 9pm join us at Subtonic at 107 Norfolk Street at Delancy in the Lower East Side. We will introduce the full concept of the event and will review the logistics we have set. Then we break into work groups including, sound crew, live music performance, electronic performance, non-music performance, video projections, poster art, interactive art, promotion, logistics, bar-b-que crew, team: shock/awe, and others we may discover. This is for all you experienced street aficionados to bring your talents and inspiration into a massive collaborative project. But more than anything this is for those of you who have never been involved in something like this, a taste of building a movement outside of boundaries.
This is the night you dream of.
Other details: This event is intended to be on the first truly *warm night* of the year. We have had some warm days but the nights haven't yet reached the threshold we are looking for. But this event isn't about temperature, it is about you and me in the street and we will take our chance when it comes. To learn more about the timeline and the plethora of groups already involved come to the meeting: Thursday 7pm to 9pm (or so) At Subtonic (below Tonic) @ 107 Norfolk Street, Surrounded by construction just north of Delancey on the Lower East Side. Take the F or J,M,Z trains to Delancey St. and you are right there.
